I’ve had a long relationship with this movie. The first time I rented it I watched it with the wrong crowd and they didn’t care for it. We turned it off but the brief segment I saw I thought was humorous. Years later I found it on vhs so I brought it home. Once I finally got around to watching it a few more years later I found that the audio was messed up and I couldn’t tell what the lovable wholesome Joe Pesci and Danny Glover were saying despite my ability to read lips.

So years later I find another vhs copy. It’s in good condition. Takes a few more years but I finally got around to watching it from start to finish. It sucks.

Just kidding. It’s fine. Joe and Danny have good chemistry. They’re just a couple of stupid guys who frequently find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Frankly, I don’t know why people don’t like this. I know Joe has a reputation but he keeps it pretty clean in this film.

Favorite part by far is the sudden angelic appearance of Willy Nelson who kind of acts as a spirit guide to the fellas, driving a fan boat and speaking in fishing metaphors. It’s great!

Was this movie worth the wait? Probably not. But I’m glad I finally saw it.
