A non-review by Prof. Popinjay
A musical remake of Ruggles of Red Gap, which I’m sure everyone remembers. (I sure don’t) It’s your standard story of a struggling actor believed to be an aristocrat masquerading as an English butler who falls in love with Lucile Ball as most would. It merited a couple guffaws.
I liked the story Bob Hope tells about his regiment in battle. He keeps exasperatedly repeating “It was three against 1000.” He goes on about how difficult the battle was only to reveal that he was part of the 1000 men and those three he was up against were some of the toughest buggers he’d ever met!
I don’t really remember much racial insensitivity in this film but I wouldn’t put it past them. It’s an old movie so don’t be surprised.
It’s a cute story and Bob and Lucile are a great pair. You can take it or leave it though.
