A Non-Review by Prof. Popinjay

When I first saw this film in 2000 I was expecting a super amazing M Night Shyamalan twist at the end. Having not been impressed I felt jilted and wanted my time back. Then one day the movie was on TV and my dad was curious about it. As I explained the premise it dawned on me what the Shaymalan was going for and my dad’s interest in the film as it progressed kindled my own interest. Rather than seeing this film through a disinterested girlfriend’s eyes I saw it through my dad’s and I began to appreciate it more and more. Adding to this was a phenomenally powerful musical score which I practically memorized. The more I thought about this gritty real life reluctant super hero story, the more I wished it had a sequel. I was saying this back when the film was considered the least of Shaymalan’s accomplishments and most reacted with “meh”. But as I explained what amazing things a sequel could bring based on the end of the first their imagination sparked as well and they agreed. A sequel to unbreakabke could be better than the first! The first film is an origin film. What happens when our hero is forced to reluctantly be that super hero again? Ive been saying this for 18 years now and with a nod in the movie “Split”, the “I don’t make sequels” Shaymalan is making a sequel with “Glass”. Needless to say I am rather excited. But I have to wonder… could my years of talking this idea up made its way through the grapevine to the right people leading to this project? I’m not delusional. I don’t think hidden microphones in Chuck E. Cheese Pizza Arcades are stealing my ideas or anything like that but after 18 years? Is it really so impossible that I could be responsible for knocking over the first of the many dominos leading to “Glass”. I just have to wonder.
