A Non-Review by Prof. Popinjay
At first this movie disappointed me. I hate how they feel the need to get the character back to square one or worse before they can do a sequel. Yes it means he has several similar goals throughout the film as he did in the last film but it feels like a cop out and it’s tragic for the character. They made Paul seem like such a jerk for much of the beginning of the film and his patheticness, while funny in the last film, was ultimately really sad this time around. Then the plot kicks in. You begin to realize what was portrayed as patheticness was genuine insight and Paul starts to look cool. He starts to do cool stuff in a funny way only a man of his stature can achieve. The film redeemed itself. I was happy I watched it through. Also I might add, Raini Rodriguez, who played Paul Blart’s daughter, is a really good actress and I think she would be great in a third Blart film as more than hostage fodder. She needs to follow in her dad’s footsteps as a mall cop and do a buddy film.
