Mountain (The)

A Non-Review by Prof. Popinjay

I’d never considered mountain climbing a spectator sport but this film changed my mind. Our story begins with a toy airplane crashing into a mountain in slow motion. Despite the plane being miniature it still manages to expel a handful of full-sized human bodies all over the frigid mountain side. Learning that the plane was carrying a lot of money and rich passengers, a total douche-bag decides to scale the mountain to rob dead people. Only one problem, he’s a moron. So to help him scale the mountain in the completely wrong season this idiot enlists the help of his brother who is played by the sweetest oldest Spencer Tracy you could ever meet. Reluctantly and for far more honorable reasons Spencer agrees to haul his deadweight of a brother to the crash site.
I’m not going to lie, the film was very effective at making me despise that greedy bastard. I couldn’t wait for him to get his comeuppance and you just KNEW it was coming. When it did happen, I’m ashamed to say, it came with great satisfaction. But what made me even more ashamed is what Spencer did for that terrible man when he got back to town. It was beautiful and unexpected and astonishing. Despite all his brother’s lack of character, Spencer loved him dearly. I thought this was just a little mountain climbing adventure film. I was wrong. I will never forget this.
