A non-review

——-This is an early Doris Day film. It was as cute as any Dorris Day film. Since she wasn’t quite an A list actress at this point in her career though she had to contend with other B rates trying to show her up. This was particularly detectable in her costar who COULD dance and COULD be funny but his acting left something to be desired.
——April (Day), a chorus girl gets a letter by mistake inviting her to represent the United States as a sort of ambassador to France. Eventually all parties involved begin to think this mistake a fortuitous one and see fit to not correct the mistake. Despite this initial decision, regret begins to set in as April is not refined, per sé, and concern arises that she may embarrass the U.S. The French on the other hand adore her. This plot however is eventually swept under the rug to give way for a love story between April and her costar (the once stuffy politician responsible for hiring April) who abandons his post to peruse her. This new plot is amusingly perpetuated by the very entertaining Frenchman who pretends to woo April only to egg the politician on.
——The Frenchman and his machinations are enjoyable to witness but I feel like the original plot needed some closure still by the end of the film. Does she win the heart of France with her charm? Does he ultimately lose his job or does something better come along? These questions go unanswered. Perhaps there should have been a sequel? Perhaps there is and I just don’t know it. God forbid I do any research before writing these. Anywho, I got other stuff to do and I’ve been on this toilet for too long as it is.
