A non-review by Prof. Popinjay

—–I read this book as a child and I must have been distracted by that kid next to me who kept trying to hide his uncontrollable flatulence by frantically hyperventilating his gas cloud into his own lungs because I don’t remember anything that happened as portrayed in this film. To me the book was dreary and boring and I don’t recall a single mention of magic or warlocks or anything. Did they add a ton of content to this movie to make it interesting or did I just skip over these parts in a vain attempt to escape Farty McCleodsnort? The movie was awesome! Way better than the book. I might point out that the theatre smelled great too but that’s not the movie’s fault. Jack Black was great. Kate Blanchet was interesting in such a non-epic role. The kid is not yet a very good actor but let’s give him some time. Oh, and creepy! This movie was super creepy! Jack tried to dilute the creepiness by drawing attention to it but he failed just like Farty failed to conceal his gastro-intestinal problem. Why would someone name their child Farty? Those parents should be investigated. I wouldn’t recommend this movie for kids but I liked it. I am an adult.
