—–Profane and Vulgar. And yet when juxtaposed to the profane and vulgar atrocities inflicted upon the Mexican people both ancient and modern, the verbal profanities and vulgarities implemented for the sake of humor pale greatly. Leguizamo’s account of his research into his culture’s past and the ongoing difficulties with his school-aged son is at once humorous, heartbreaking, and ultimately so very powerful. This is not your average standard stand-up comedy routine. But don’t let me distract you by saying its a one-man spoken documentary. You will learn much but you will laugh a lot. Considering the harsh realities that only human history can bring, John Leguizamo has achieved something quite remarkable but I think he would likely hand the credit for this to his son.
