It’s a sports movie… therefore it’s good.
This is another film directed by Alex Kendrick along with Courageous, Flywheel, and most notable Fireproof with Kirk Cameron. Some of these films deal with heart wrenching subjects and while those subjects are important to deal with, I count them more therapeutic than entertainment. Courageous in particular was so dang sad I don’t even want to think about it. Reminds me of that movie The Gray with Liam Neeson. Just so dang sad!
Facing the Giants has a hefty portion of lightheartedness, even if it is tacked on a bit. I’ll forgive it for that. As this is a sports movie, all the diligence lessons, integrity lessons, and teamwork lessons are fully justified and handled in entertaining ways that make sense for the story.
I’ll say this one thing against it but not really because it’s hilarious. This film ends with the most unironically-performed cheesiest line of all cheesy lines! It’s so cheesy I groaned and laughed out loud at the same time. It’s cheesier than the “You just couldn’t leave Gutenov alone” joke; the infamous joke that killed Small Wonders. I won’t spoil it for you. You have to experience the cheese yourself.
