A non-review by Prof. Popinjay
As soon as I realized this wasn’t an Abbott and Costello film I was so disinterested. But I watched it anyway and I’m so glad I did. The title “The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell” conjures images of some goof-off in the military getting canned because of his wacky hijinks. That couldn’t be further from what the film actually is. Based on the true story of Colonel Billy Mitchell, this film accounts his frustrations with getting the U.S. military to see the importance of the then fledgling (and failing) Air Force program. His persistence in the face of many highly decorated military leaders leads to his court martial but through his many sacrifices, the Air Force becomes a powerful part of… well, the navy at first but eventually it becomes its own branch with its own song and everything.
They should really remake this film. I’m sure they’d get it all wrong but they should remake it anyway. There’s a profit to be had.
