A Non-Review by Prof. Popinjay
Taking many admitted cues from the film Fight Club but focusing more on computer hacking and conspiracies behind big business, I found this incredibly intriguing.
It was hard to get through though. Not because it was boring or tedious. It never was. It was just very gritty not something by which I am often captivated. There were some soap opera-esque attributes as with any lengthy television show but I was at the edge of my seat most the time, wanting to know what twist they were going to throw at me next.
Did you know Alf was in this show? Yes, I’m referring to the puppet alien from the 80’s. Every once in a while this gritty conspiracy drama derails and does some really weird stuff, like the episode where hardly anyone says a word. It’s always in the context of the story, strange as that seems and the variety presented is really refreshing in a long running show.
There were several times my mind was blown and the ending I never saw coming. It was ten minutes until the complete finale of the entire show and I was riveted without a clue as to the direction it would end up on. I’ve made humorous commentary on the writing style of Mr. Robot before, but in all honesty, I have to conclude that the show’s writer Sam Esmail is just brilliant. Not since Season 1 and 2 of Castlevania have I been so impressed with a shows writing. Well done.
Like I said, it was tough to get through, and I’m glad it’s over because it was so intense and provocative but I’m also glad I watched it.
I leave you with these quotes from the show:
