Paddington (2015)

A Non-Review by Prof Popinjay

Paddington was great. I have no complaints. Sorry that’s just the way it is. I loved the absurd regard for Paddington from the father.

“Hmmm, looks to be a bear of some sort.” Spoken disdainfully as if this adorable bear were a transient trying to bum money.

I do have a strange experience with this film though. I was at a restaurant where they were playing what I thought to be The Golden Compass, that film based on His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, featuring Nicole Kidman as the villain.

I thought that movie was a little intense for kids, what with Nicole slapping monkeys and whatnot.

A little later still at the restaurant, I looked over and saw the Paddington movie was on and I thought they must have switched out the movie to something more kid friendly. Now that I’ve finally watched Paddington all the way through I realize they never did switch movies. Nicole Kidman is the bear-hating monkey-slapping villain in both films! What has she got against monkeys and bears!?!

Kidman in The Golden Compass with her Monkey familiar always on his guard.

Anywho, I found Paddington far more entertaining than The Golden Compass even with the misursinistic monkey abuser in both.

MIS-URS-IN-IST: noun (mîz-URS-în-ÎST) One who hates bears. From the Greek miso- meaning hates and ursine meaning bears a lot. “The boy had kicked the Chicago mascot square in the crotch. Clearly his misursinistic tendencies were becoming a major problem.” -Alfred Lord Tennyson
