A Non-review by Professor Popinjay
Did you love the movie Dave but really wish there was an older movie with a similar plot? Did you read the Prince and the Pauper but always wished the prince would have a heart attack early in the story? I know! Who doesn’t want that, right? Did you love Alexander Dumas’ classic tale The Man in the Iron Mask but you’d prefer it not be rife with all those pesky musketeers and iron masks and such? Perhaps you wish Mrs. Doubtfire would masquerade as a South American dictator?
Well Richard Dreyfus delivers! All you want wrapped up in a movie that’s hilarious for one half and sentimental and inspiring for the other half.
What’s more, this was filmed in Rio (partly) and actually does feature stock footage of Carnival! Hey, a first time for everything, right?
Moon Over Parador is actually a remake of another film called The Magnificent Fraud which is based on the short story “Caviar for His Excellency”. Aren’t you glad you know that now? Impress your friends!
Dreyfus is great and Raul Julia screams at everyone. I still miss Raul. It’s great to see him again. He’s so angry in this film though. Dreyfus doesn’t talk about sharks or global warming at all in this. Seems like a missed opportunity.
Pretty sure this ends the same way as “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”. Or I watched these too close together and I can’t differentiate them. That happens to me a lot. Weird was a great movie. Moon Over Parador is a decent movie. Sammy Davis Jr. is in it. That’s something. Man, I’m hungry! All I had was a solitary sausage for dinner. If I sneak out to Taco Bell I’ll wake the whole house up. And I’d have to put a shirt on. That’s not happening.

I fully endorse this film. Or not. Do whatever you want to do. It’s way better than Modern Problems! I can guarantee you that! That film sucked fatty.
