Aside from, again, not fully grasping how echolocation works, the only thing this film did wrong in my opinion was not giving Djimon Hounsou a bigger part. He’s awesome! Why is he always a side character?
So anyway, echolocation. I feel like anything, space monster or what have you, with that good of hearing and that lack of sight would, simply by privilege of their station, naturally have echolocation but I guess not? These things solely, SOLELY, attack what they hear. Also they don’t trip and/or run into things while traveling at breakneck speeds. By rights they should be able to make their own sound, even if by tapping their claws on stuff, and instantly know the shape of their surroundings, à la Ben Afleck in Daredevil. (Forgot about that one, didn’t you?)
At the same time, they’re overwhelmed by cacophony like waterfalls. So, I dunno. Maybe there is something to the science behind it. It doesn’t matter too much. It was a good movie. I have enjoyed the sequels thoroughly too.
I do love a good monster flick. These will go on the shelf with the best of them.
By the way, if you’re wondering if the cat lives or not, I’ll tell you: that’s very nice of you to be concerned.
