A Non-Review by Professor Pooinjay
(2012)
You know? I’m not so sure this film was historically accurate. I know they skip over some stuff in the history books but Abraham Lincoln hunting vampires seems like a difficult thing to sweep under the rug.
Such a weird concept but I loved it!
Obviously this comes from Seth Grahame-Smith, creator of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. This was a trend for a bit, attaching some classic work or historical figure with an alternate horror-based narrative.
Some that come to mind are “Anno Dracula: The Bloody Red Baron” by Kim Newman and “Queen Victoria: Demon Slayer” by A.E. Moorat.

Abe led me to realize how desensitized I’ve become to this genre. It came on at my parents house and I was happily watching Abe throw axes at vampires and my parents freaked a bit. They freaked during the 2016 Ghostbusters too so I’m not too worried about it. I suppose it’s relative to the observer but AL:VH is quite tame most of the time compared to somethings out there.
I don’t recall a whole lot about this other than enjoying it. I thought it was funny seeing Mary Elizabeth Winstead playing the part of Mary Todd Lincoln because I had just seen her as Ramona in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. She has such a humorless way of speaking. She has humor but it’s so dry.
I thought Abe was played by Eric Bana the whole time. Turns out it was Benjamin Walker. Everyone looks the same when dressed as Abraham Lincoln. I know an Abraham Lincoln impersonator and he looks just like another guy I know who is also an Abraham Lincoln impersonator. What are the odds of that?
I don’t think there was a whole lot of substance to this beyond it having Abraham Lincoln and he definitely DOES hunt vampires so you get what you pay for. That’s not a bad thing. A movie delivering on all its promises contained in the title is a rare thing. Not like that Troll 2 movie. Zero trolls in the whole thing and was there even a Troll 1?
