“I FORGOT TO WRITE ABOUT LOVE AND MONSTERS BACK WHEN I WAS WRITING ABOUT ALL THE FILMS I SAW WHILE DATING YOU!” I shouted to the darkness after waking up in a cold sweat in the middle of a stormy night.

My wife didn’t startle at all. This kind of thing is apparently too common an occurrence and she’s used to it now.

“Just write about it in the morning.” She said and rolled over.

She doesn’t understand. I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing you, my pair of loyal readers, are bereft of commentary on a film I had seen long ago but neglected to add to my writing list.

This must be rectified tout suite! Immediately I donned my billowy poet shirt (half un-buttoned of course), put on my Fabio wig, grabbed my ridiculously long feather pen, and rushed up the ladder to the surface of my fifteen foot high Victorian era writing desk. Remington, my raven assistant, recognizing the signs, had my 8-hour candle already lit in anticipation for my feverish penmanship.

Thus, I begin:

Dude, Love and Monsters is like real sad, yo!

Thus, I conclude.

Okay, I suppose I should say more. I am wearing my billowy poet shirt after all.

This kid falls in love with a girl just before the apocalypse. As a result she moves very far away… because of the apocalypse, not because he fell in love her. Meanwhile, the earth becomes infested with giant monsters as you might expect. Sick of sitting in one spot and fending off monsters, the young man gets back in touch with the girl via radio and eventually decides to make his way to her. Hilarity ensues.

The journey is the destination in this film with some important life lessons along the way. I just felt bad for this kid. I won’t spoil it for you.

I appreciated the notion of being able to tell which monsters were fierce and which were docile by the look in their eyes. I’m not sure that works in real life but I can think of only one way to find out.

Aw! Big kitty wants cuddles!

I think a sequel would make this a better movie honestly.

Oh, it’s an absolute must if you’re a writer.
